I have only been playing 20 minute games and here lately I have lost a couple of close games that i would have loved to have finished and had the upper hand. I want to get better yet dont like real long games. should i up my time . if so how much?

G/45 seems reasonable enough to play some amount of serious chess...and not be too long as well.  Our club uses this as the standard tournament time control.
