Hi everybody,

Once I seeked a game in live chess and someone accepted it but didn't move for like 5 minutes. He had disabled his chat system so I couldn't ask him to move either. This has happened to me a couple of times. Has it ever happened to you?

If yes then "How do you deal with it ? "

I was winning a game where instead of resigning the opponent just left me to wait for 5+minutes to earn the win on time.

Cheap shot if ya ask me but what can ya do?

There's nothing I like more than watching your opponent's clock sloooowly tick down, when you know they are not going to move...they think they are annoying you...when really you still end up with the win.

Of copurse, >15 minute games can be a bit annoying...

Yeah but what if you are waiting for the first move ? Then the clock wont tickle down.

Unfortunately even if you play an OTB game, each person can use his or her clock any way they want. My advice is until they fnd a way of flagging people who just et a clock run without making  moves, is to just write down the names of these people who do that (and let's face it it's not a lot, most people here do want to play chess) & this way you'l have list of names you will never play again. Not only will they get a loss, but also 1 less person each time who will play them

That's quite a good idea.

If you are waiting for the 1st move, the clock won't tick down. If after a minuite or two if they haven't made a move you can hit the abort button.

If u do hit the abort button then u will lose and your rating would down.

No, you do not get a loss for aborting & no loss of rating points

I played a 30 minute game on live chess once.  We both made a few minor mistakes through the game, but I came out 2 pawns ahead in the endgame and was a few turns from queening.

He had 12 minutes left on his clock, and I had 8.  Instead of resigning or playing the game out to the end, he decided to use that opportunity to lecture me on why I was not as strong a player as he was, and how he was playing under his game, but I was playing lucky.

I said "Of course, I am sure of it, thank you, sir."

He then told me how any other day he could easily defeat me.

I said "Absolutely correct sir."

He then told me he had been playing for many years, and was watching TV while our game was in progress, but next time, he would soundly defeat me.

I said "I know you will, you are obviously a superior player, sir."

He then congratulated me and said in a decade or two, if I worked really hard, I might be as good as him

I said "I can only hope that will be true someday, sir."

He then preceded to wait 11 minutes and 55 seconds to make a move.

Obviously a very poor sportsman. It's amazing how a lot of peope can not be gracious. It sounds like he just could'nt accept he was losing.

I couldn't bare the thought of the sitting in front of the computer for the same amount of time I was expecting to sit there, so I killed myself.  I found this was the most appropriate way to "deal with it".
