It happens when you have a bad connection. You lose connection for a second, and it shows their clock going down. Beelieve me, it's happened to me many times.

For whatever reasons, this site's Live Chess doesn't work very well unless you have a fast connection (based on mountains of anecdotal evidence).

You may have to consider longer games or improving your connection.

thanks Kirk. I guess its possible but I thought I had a good connection, no hiccups through the whole game.

Are you running a wired connection from your PC to the modem? no guff inbetween like wireless routers? and no sharing of the connection?

Speed isn't as important as reliability. When I was on dial-up I never had a problem. Slow but steady. When I switched to a wi-fi connection that is 1000 times faster, I started to get disconnects, especially when I was in the wrong room or my roommate was downloading stuff.

I have to play on my computer which is wired directly to the modem. Still, it seems like it always happens at the most crucial point in a game.

Agreed. Because I live in remote-place had only dial-up for years. It never disconnected ever!

The comment above about using an ''ethernet-cable'' is probably the most practical suggestion if drop-outs are a big problem for anyone.

Read my blog and make sure you're doing whatever you can to improve your online connection. And next time describe your browser, ISP connection and Operating System. All these minor details can make big differences here. If you have ongoing problems you can't solve contact the staff directly via Help & Support.

thanks Nimzo, post 8 has my specs. read your blog -mostly I do all that stuff-- ccleaner, reboot, hardwired connection ect. the problem is not consistent, and I being a troubleshooter for a living know those are the absolute worst. It's just one of those things I'll have to learn to live with. I'm sure in the end I win as many games due to this as I lose so...playing after a few (5) beers costs me more games than a bad connectionCool
