Here is a good puzzle, taken from a game my friend played but missed the checkamting sequence

Very nice. I have to be honest, I didn't see it. Felt stupid for missing it once I saw the solve, but then that's the point, right?

lol.. ya i hit solve 2... i did consider moving the rook there when i was solving it but i pushed that thought outa my mind right away cuz i didnt connect that exchange with mating... ehh..

Sorry, but your friend did not, as you say: "missed the checkamting sequence"
there is no "4 move sacrificial MATE" with correct play from both sides.

Don't get me wrong, your friend, playing the White pieces, definitely should get a checkmate, (discribed below) but not in 4 moves.

Black's answer to 1. Rd5 should be: Kg4 (not 1... f6 trapping the black king)

2. f3+         Kh3
3. Qc4       Bb5
4. Rxb5     Kxg3
5. Qe2       Qxg5
6. hxg5      f6
7. Qh2+     Kxf3
8. Nd2+     Kg4
9. Qg2+     Kf5
10. Rb6     Rf8
11. Rf1+    Kg6
12. gxf6+   Kf7
13. Qg7+   Ke8
14. Qe7#   1-0

There's a faster way for white to win, with correct play on both sides:

1. Rd6            Re8
2. Nd2            Bb3
3. g4+            hxg4
4. Nxe4           Qxd6
5. Nxd6+          Kg6
6. axb3           Rf8
7. Ra8            g3
8. Rxf8           gxf2+
9. Kxf2           Kh5
10. Qxf7+          Kg4
11. Qf3#            1-0
