BorgQueen, if black promotes his e-pawn it will be a lot more. In fact I suppose black will win.

 that's the point of Ne1! the e pawn can't promote because a piece is on its queening square. Only the d and f pawns can promote, but can't give check because they're blocked by their own e pawn.

And wouldn't it be a mate in 3, not 4?

Yes, it would be mate in 3, but black can do fe=Q and then do one of those move wasters by playing Qh4 to stop the check, followed by Rxh4 for mate.

Took me nearly an hour to find it though :p
