Hi guys, this is the correct version of today's daily chess puzzle. The moves displayed below are for both sides optimal.

Thanks Nick! Black could've lasted longer by playing 1. ...Ka4. But after that it would've been mate anyway [highlight] : 2. Rd5 Kb3 3. Rd4 Kxa2 4. Rd3 Ka1 5. Ra3#

Dear dailypuzzle this is still not correct because black can last longer by Ka4 as
Tajamoen and I have pointed out earlier in the incorrect puzzle...

 1.0-0-0  Ka4  2.Rd5  Kb3 3.Rd4  Kxa2  4.Rd3  Ka1 5.Ra3#

actually it gets worse

1. 0-0-0 Ka4 2. Rd5 Kb3  3. Rd4 Ka3  4. Kc2 Kxb1  5. Rd3 Ka1 6. Ra3#

Still a good puzzle.

I don't know what do now. There are so many options. I just attached a variation, so you can look to the move list.

I'll try my best to do all the variations here-

 1.0-0-0  Ka4  2.Rd5  Kb3 3.Rd4  Kxa2  4.Rd3  Ka1 5.Ra3#
         if Kxa2 2.Rd3   Ka1 3.Ra3#
         if Kb3   2.Rd4  Kxa2   3.Rd3  Ka1 4.Ra3#
 1.0-0-0  Ka4  2.Rd5  if Ka3   3.Kc2  Ka4  4.Kc3   Ka3    5.Ra5#
now have I miss out anything ?

Help me out here:  If castle makes this puzzle work, then neither the K or R could have been moved earlier in the game and we can't know that without trial and error.  But, we can't assume that, correct?  Being in the correct pre-castle positions doesn't necessarily ensure that they have not been moved, especially this late in the game and with so little material, right?

Actually I don't think much of a composition with such reduced material indicative of being very late in the game, especially one that has little more to offer than an example in a text on elementary mates, where castling is still an option.  Retrograde analysis problems, tedious though they may be, where one must determine if castling is legal are another story.  It's merely cute.
