    kind of a strange mate there were other ways to do it also without taking the queen at all i think but i probably would ha e taken as well seeing that without them you could get the result fine but with them it could have been tricky

    21.a3 is better, cutting off the a3 square for the king to escape to, and threatening 22.b3 mate. to prevent mate, he has 22...Qxb2, or 22...Qc3, where 22.Qd4+ is followed by 23.b3#

    Um, I'm a little confused RosarioVampire, wouldn't the move 23.b3# you speak of be impossible since the black queen just took the pawn on b2 on move 22?

     

    Maybe I just can't see it without a board in front of me. :)

    What about 22... Bg4 ?

    a3 may not be better on 21, but I think maybe it is on 22.

    Oh my! You're right! 22. Bg4 would stop it! A quick a3 after the queen trade was the only way to truly checkmate! Thank you for the correction.

    I agree, the Queens are useless now because of the unstoppable 2 move mate.
