This is a simple puzzle that takes 2 moves by white to have a checkmate. Have fun but look carefully!

Now if this was the actual set up I'd resign but its just a fun hypothetical problem!Smile

Yup it is. But the puzzle asks for a 2 move check mate not a one move checkmate.

That's a proper purple board BTW.

This puzzle is mate in 2! If it were mate in 1, you might be right.

If you didn't find fastest possible mate, you didn't solve that puzzle, you didn't find solution. This puzzle is mate in one and mate is 1.Qf6#  and that's all

Yes, you can't have a fancy mate of that kind as the answer if there is a faster solution.

Changing the queen to a rook should solve the mate in 1 problem.

Yes, this puzzle is flawed. Mate in one: 1.Qf6#

It lists a solution which is not the fastest possible mate. Therefore, the puzzle is flawed. If there was a rook on f1, then the given solution would work fine.

There's a way to edit the puzzle without removing it. Fiddle with clicking the edit image and insert game icons until you manage to bring up your puzzle.

I think the puzzle was originally posted with a queen on f1, but was changed to a rook so there wasn't a mate in 1 anymore.

I was very puzzled until I looked at the notation marks on the board itself.  It's a mean trick to flip the board in a puzzle.  It's no longer a chess puzzle at that point, it's a "Gotcha!"
