Greek gift -- a common sacrifice.  Black's best response is to decline to recapture with Kh8 in order to buy time to find the proper defense (f6 or probably better, Nf6 as examples).

Sorry but the sacrifice doesn't work here. After 3. Qh5 Nf6 black is winning handily. He doesn't need to decline the sacrifice at all.

Perhaps you should subject your "puzzles" to at least a modicum of analysis before spewing forth with them in the future.

I suspect there's a white pawn missing at e5.

/ It would make some sense of the puzzle, anyway.

You are correct, drd, but you're also a jerk.  Puzzle composition is a great way to learn -- especially when your puzzles are flawed and there's good discussion around the lines that refute it.  Taking a hostile tone, rather than a measured critical one, is more likely to discourage people from posting at all than it is to force them to adhere to your standards.

Perhaps I could suggest the same for your posts -- just a quick review for hostility before simply spewing them forth going forward please.

Perhaps you should subject the inner layers of your mouth to a modicum of soap before emanating trash from it.

What about 1...Kh8 instead? Isn't 2.Ng5 g6 OK for black since the Queen can't go to h5 anymore?

frodon thats why its a trap, its usually better to decline if theres a mate in the mist. so your right the puzzle isn't showing best moves for black, but hey this sort of stuff counts as a puzzle, to show that it's ok to move your bishop and take a pawn.

Very important to enjoy the journey! Ease up on the throttle and give it a little less gas... and you have the makings of a great chess companion!!
