I don't see what was so puzzling about that one, trob. Pretty obvious.

Minihag_a,

In your first puzzle, Qe7 is mate... Please, in the future, make sure there is no alternative mate to the one you devise - I was quite confused.

In Post #344 by Minihag_a, the solution given is 1.Qad6+ Rxd6 2.Qe4+. The correct solution is 1.Qe4#. The suggestion by bencez of 1.Qe7+ is not a mate because Black's K escapes with 1....Kf5

In _minihag_a puzzle in post #353, the solution given is the nice mate in 3.

However, there is no mate after 1.Re4 Nd4 instead of 1...Nxd4!. The capture 1...Nxd4 is not forced.

There is no mate also  after 1.Re4 Nxe4 2.Qg6 Nf6 instead of 2....fxg6. Neither is the capture 2....fxg6 forced.

Here is an endgame puzzle. Note that White begins this puzzle in check.

In Post #302 by the quasher, White took an inordinate 27 moves to get a checkmate.

Here's a sample of how to mate in less than 15 moves in a K+R vs. K Ending.

To mate sharply and fast

(1) Imprison the K in smaller and smaller space

(2) Close the gap between your K and the other K into just one square.
