The White Queen was captured in this game (obviously). We know it was captured by one of the Black Rooks... but which one!?

All that needs to be known is that none of the remaining royalty has moved.

Probably the a8 rook, but it could be both. Do you know how fast it's possible to make a stale mate?

I won't say if you are right, but I certainly won't accept an answer without reasoning.

Okay... no pieces promoted...

Black's two rooks and light bishop captured...

b-pawn had to capture before queen was captured...

b-pawn captured on a dark square, so it was one of the rooks that was captured...

So which rook was captured?

Hold on...

Neither of black's rooks could get out until the g and b pawns captured a piece...

The only white pieces missing besides the queen are the bishops...

The dark bishop couldn't have been captured until white's b pawn was captured which I've shown hasn't happened yet...

So the light bishop must have been captured by the b pawn, releasing THE A8 ROOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The answer is therefore that the queen was captured by the h8 rook.
