6. Games. to gain (a point, advantage, etc.) by strategy, chance, or luck

The win certainly looked like being White's property. It was taken from him. It doesn't imply anything about what happened after it was stolen.

And there was gain by strategy (and/or a lot of luck) from the play.

Oh well. Pity you couldn't find the move to steal the win. Or understand English.
