find a faster mate...if you can

this is the second game i get into with my iphone chess..first game is useless, 4 moves... the first two games i play are always exactly the same. there's a bunch of quicker ways to mate for this game, but i like the almost-forced position.. and black's attempted attack on my queen.

The game starts off with me basically laying down my rook.. and the fun begins. enjoy

let me know if you find a faster mate ;) no programs allowed... you can only compile with your brain ;)

remember these are just quick games against my free chess app. probably about 30 seconds to a minute each on average.

You clearly didn't even do the puzzle because if you looked at the solution and/or knew anything about chess you would know that is only check.

I don't know why anybody would think Qxf7 is checkmate!

i'm assuming he was assuming it was just a lame puzzle at first glance.

his loss. i think it's a decent puzzle. i love finding new and faster variations :P

    2. Bxf7+ is faster with 3. Qf5+ e6 4. Bxe6+

btw hate to break it to you but this is not a decent puzzle, with 1. Kd1 it would be somewhat better as black can't play 1. ... Nf6 unpunished, but 1. ...  Nd4 and black escapes an immediate loss

    After 1. Kf1 Nxa1 2. Qxf7+ Kd7 3. Be6 Kc6 4. Bd5 instead of Kb6 why can't black just go back to Kd7 and repeat moves after Be6 Kc6 Bd5 Kd7 making a draw?

Faster mate found (which was probably what heinzie referred to). Check movelist.

doesnt 2. Bxf7+ ...3. Qf5+ e6 4. Bxe6 leave it open for for his king to move to c6? or am i missing something?

and i said decent, not amazing. it leaves room for error, no?

from my experience, the computer isn't the best at causing 3 fold draws.. it tries sometimes... it's pretty decent at causing stalemates in end games. made me keep my eyes open and not get lazy :P

also, remember that the iphone chess app gets smarter as you beat it. it automatically increases the difficulty without actually switching it if it loses a few games in a row.

    How about after the fork,  Bb5+   c6   Bc4   ?   Qxf7+   Kd7   Be6#   ???

There is no forced mate. The only reason you won was because black played incorrectly.

Surely that is the case every time there is a forced mate. :P

Purple puppy and Heinzie transpose ... here's heinzie's line with a shout out to why Kc6 fails, in the notes.
