1. Ba6+ Kb8 2. Qh8+ Bc8 3. Qxc8#

But don't worry, I've seen worse puzzles. You'll learn eventually ;)

It's a nice, puzzle, although the pattern is somewhat overly familiar. You could correct the puzzle by placing a rook on d8. That both takes out the extra solution that Kingfisher mentioned and adds the line 1.Bc6+ Kc8 (in your puzzle mate can now only be delivered in the way Kingfisher suggested) 2.Qa6+ and mate next.

I think the right solution is actually:

1. Ba6+ Kb8 2. Qh8+ Bc8 3. Qxc8++

 nice for a first attempt! the [unintended] solution is actually quite instructive at upper-scholastic level.  mathijs 's correction can be made flamboyant by placing a second Q instead of a rook at d8 - watch black curse that Q [or R in mathijs] for not being a N instead ;)

I like this puzzle, although I prefer Jay's solution because it has a little more flair (queen going accross the board for #):

THE FOLLOWING THOUGH TRUE IS TONGUE-IN-CHEEK!

jay's solution may be too slow for no-increment lightning (quick) chess - its happened here that ive run out of time while moving my piece a long way to mate,  its also happened here to opps [not at other servers i play on - i use winboard/xboard and make it small for lightning chess (quickchess), plus xboard/winboard have premove]
