oh, I understand it now. (black can't take the rook because it would be stalemate)

I actually had something similar to this in a game of mine, with the rook checking to try and get it taken for a stalemate. I eventually managed to take it with the piece limiting his king's movement and won the game lol

as soon as i saw the whole stalemate it was an easy puzzle, man i hate games like that when even though you're so up in material you have to be super careful not to take too much and draw.
