Why is this checkmate. Black's King still has f4 and g5!

Bishop on c1 covers both f4 and g5. Have a look at "Solution" / "Move list" for the complete moves variations.

Hehehe :) very funny.. That was my reaction when I first saw the puzzle. I laughed out laud... but then.. I spent 10 minutes and I couldn't see the solution. I wasn't laughing anymore.

Jollyjoker, please add some text to your post. It's incorrect puzzle because it's not a chess position. Second, black could easily avoid mat in 3 in your position.

I'm not sure but I think that this is Sam Loyd's puzzle. He made a lot of puzzles like this.

Thanks! I really don't remember. But this puzzle has second part. :) To prove that this is legal chess posision we should show a game that leads to this position. And to make it a puzzle :) you have to make it for EXACTLY 16 moves.

hehehe.. this is even more tricky than check-mate in 3 moves.

Nice try GooPhy! This line is just a part of all the solution.

I bet you missed it at "Solution" / "Move List" ;-)
