I have seen both positions more than once before and they are both fantastic indeed.
In the second position, black has but two moves before he gets stalemated, so white needs to do something. Ordinary tries though fail to achieve mate in 6. The correct path is a ludicrous one indeed (highlight to see):
1. Rh1 d4 2. Ra1 d3 3. Ra3 bxa3+. You should be able to see it from here!
