4 Qxf8+ followed by Kh4-g5 looks like it will be quicker.

the king is in check so you have to move it thats all, really after you move it, you have a mate in ten, but I did not want to start the first move as queen captures queen, I wanted to see why the queen had to be sacrificed thats all.

I would have gone

3 kxf2 or

4 qxf8

to get the rook

It's probably not a faster mate, but it leaves you with a pretty solid material advantage.

That's why I don't really get the long puzzles with lots of moves- there's too many good variations that can be played instead and it's frustrating to me when I'm told my move is incorrect.

this is basically a forced mate because if the opponent deviates, its causes him a faster death!

4 Qxf8+ Kh7 5 Kh4 Bg6 6 Kg5 and mate in a couple; 5... Kh6 6 Qh8+ Kg6 7 Qe8+ Kf5 8 Qf7 mate.
