Re4 is basically the meat of this one.

After that, depending on black's response there's a mating move.  If there's a move  for black after Re4 that I've missed where white can't subsequently mate, let me know.  I don't see it.

What do I win? ;)

wow took me 5 seconds (sorry but it was easy) first u do rook e5 then it forces the king into 2 legal moves Kc4 and d4. then u move queen to h4 checkmate. if this is right do i get a trophy

If Re5 then 1 ... - Kc4 ; 2 Qh4+ - Bg4 or Kb3

@ OckhamsRazor:  1 Re4 - Kxe4

@dljaraki what about Kb3 then(sorry but too obvious that, that was not the answer)?

My idea is having the Knight to b2 and then checking w/ smth. but I couldn't find what to check with:D

lol ... well seen :) I didn't thought much on that possibility....

and what if 1 Re4 - Bc8?

Black loose material but only receives mate in the 3rd move.

1. Re4

if king takes the rook, Qh1#

if bishop moves, Qc6# or  Qe6#

if knight moves, Nc3#

if peon moves, Rd4#

took me 6-7 minutes

Very cool. This one turned out to be pretty tricky, with a number of moves to work out. Good thing it was only a mate-in-two. Who was the author?

what is the correct answer? I do not see a forced mate in 2.. I see possible mate in 2, but it depends on black's response

please, as a #2[*] this is not quite quite - hardly any "tries" - you want really difficult mate-in-2s i could supply a 100 but why bother - there are lots on the internet.

[*][as mate-in-2 probs. are called in problem-composition]

Mate-in-2 newbies can search for and download "matemaster 1.5" -  it is a matefinder [for white only] that comes with 100 not-difficult problems. (Average level: only somewhat higher then this.]

I'll post a few *good* mate in 2 problems in a new thread next month.
