1.Be5#  makes any mate-in-2 irrelevant

Thanks for trying to solve but again: 1. Be5 is not mate. Black defends simply by 1...Rxf4!!

Actually, that defense is illegal. Rxf4 leaves black still in check by the bishop on e5!

A better (and legal) defense is Kg7!

1.Nd5  Rxd5 2.Kxb7#   I think that works. If it doesn't explain

1. Nd5 Bb6!! is the right defense.

Hey Timothy_P according to NimzoRoy, 1. Be5 is a one-move mate. So I said that this is not mate since Black can defend by capturing the Bishop with a rook ...Rxf4.

You said that that defense is illegeal, please tell us what illegal move are you talking about.

Asorski, did you really compose this one yourself ?  Very impressive.

Since nobody has provided a diagram of the solution, I hope you won't mind if I do:-

{ If you're not familiar with these diagrams, just click on the first move of an alternative sequence (the part within the (1.Bc2.. ) ) and you can then step through the moves using the buttons. }

I havn't covered every possible counter-move by black but I hope it shows that there is no defense against mate in 2.

Ingenious puzzle - please keep them coming

Edit:   Some advice for all those who keep posting incorrect solutions to puzzles - why don't you try out your 'solution' in a PGN editor such as the Game Editor on this site ?  That way it will tell you immediately whether or not your solution is really mate & you won't risk making yourselves look foolish on the forum !

Thanks stephen_33 for your comments.

Actually what I did is:

I get a good puzzle from a friend and then improved it by adding pieces so that it looks like it is very easy to solve. It sounds easy but I tell you dear readers, it is very difficult!

Thanks for providing the diagram. The key, along with other variations shows clearly the line of play on both sides.

Yes.  Very creative. I like how the a/b pawns double protection (B, R) falls appart when trying to protect the d pawn with the rook.

On the solution, moving either of the black rooks to the sixth rank also falls to Bd4 or Be5.
