I am just a beginner, so I have to ask; what about Re2 and then Qh1?

Anything else is too slow and loses for practical purposes.  Are there any opinions on how to make this puzzle better?

I also thought of Rf4 that would prevent the white queen from going to f7 and also threaten with mate, Qh1#. If white should try to protect himself with Qh2, then Rf1#. I think that would work as well, but at the same time, white can play Bh7+ or Qf3, sacrificing a lot of material just to delay the defeat, so the solution in the puzzle is better. Nice first puzzle!

Rf4 leads to complications after Bh7+  If Kxh7, then Qc2+ and there is no mate; it is just material loss.  If Kh8 or Kf8, then Bxg7+ prolongs the game.  So the given solution is best.

I guess you're right.  At first I thought that Rf4 would lead to mate too, but after Bh7+ Kxh7, Qc2+ Kg8, Rxf4 I can't see a quick mate for black. But the given solution is powerful and there is no way for white to protect himself. I also have to say that I like the tension in the position. If it was white to move, he'd have a mate in two, but he just don't have the time!

My first thought was Rxh4, but then black gets mated.
