So - we are dancing on the edge of the blade. The treacherous black queen demolised our grand castle, and the Black is one move away from capture our humble king. What to do now?

maybe there are discussed moves for black in the middle of the puzzle - so for those who feel THERE ARE the puzzle begins with the 4th move:)

missed a lot of moves trying to do it!

I kept trying to take the rook on the last move...
Stupid me always likes material!

after Rxe6 what if black takes back with f pawn????

 I think white got lucky on this because after

25.Rxe6, Qxb1+

26.Re1(forced), Qxe1#

Unless thats the blunder you are talking about when comleting the puzzle. Butr anyway, those things happen in games too.
