i tried using 3D pieces but it was too difficult to accurately view the position.
Nice puzzle. Thanks!
The 3D pieces just take getting used to. I think it's worth the effort because then changing to OTB chess with real pieces will be easier.
if you like it, here are some more (sorry but it would take me too long to copy them all over into this forum)
puzzles
I know what you mean, but on a computer screen, with the view at a fixed angle, I find it much more difficult to accurately keep track of where everything is on the board. I don't have too much trouble with OTB play although I'm not able to play very often.
It is wrong way to fix the problem. Right way is to buy special flat circle pieces, where is pictogram of the piece drawn at the the circle's side as a copy of chess.com piece pictograms. And play with this pieces OTB every game.
And one day you will find out amazing thing! It surprisingly turns out that not everybody of 700 000 members of chess.com site wants to train themselves for OTB using this eyes-looking-configuration technique.

And it is important to BUY them, not make them as I did as a child. The drawings were so bad that my opponent thought his king was his queen. I mated him 2 moves after he had tried moving his king several squares across the board and he got really angry. Ooops
