Difficult, but not impossible.  White to move and win.

Good question!  I'll have to think about it a little bit but I'll see if I can find something that will make a good puzzle.

First! :P ...

No but seriously nice puzzle.  The whole concept ultimately boils down to time... black has no way to bring over any defensive troops in any effective manner!

Great puzzle gonnosuke, I should really stalk you more actively :P

is there a clear win for white if black replies ...Bg7 after Rf3 ? after Rg3 Qd7 h3 Be7 Qxb6 white is better but with the opposite colored bishops I would still give black drawing chances

Yes, white still wins with reasonably accurate play despite the opposite color bishops.  After Rg3 Qd7 h3 Be7 Qxb6 Kh8 Rxg4 the h-file is still a concern for black and the endgame looks difficult if not impossible -- I don't see any clear way for him to hold without help from white.  That said, it may be black's best try under the circumstances.

I dont see a decisive win for white after 9...f5 in that line for example 10.exf5 Qxf5 11.Re1 Qf6 12.Qe3 Bd6 I think black can hold this with strong play

It's easy enough to find out -- give the position to two engines and let them slug it out.  They'll either run around in circles, confused by the opposite color bishops, or white will pound out a victory in clinical fashion.

you can't play 9...f5,  if 6...your bishop g4! is no more on the diagonal for your pawn to protect and chess!!

Very instructive.  Nice puzzle.  white has to keep bearing in, bringing up the reserves.   Thanks for posting this one.

this is a great puzzle by a great GM.  White either forces mate or forces opponent to resign. I like it, show them who is tough and who is the man!!!!!!!
