okay i'm doing the tactic puzzles. and i solved one that doesn't really appear to be solved and am wondering if theres something i'm missing. okay, the puzzle starts like this:

I don't see a clear advantage other than perpetual check draw after this. am i missing something or was that the point?

5. RxKR7/ Rxh7

That will mate if your opponent attempts to threaten with his rook.

From the position after Kf8:  You are looking for a mate involving the two rooks, and you are attempting to force the King away from the rooks in order to deliver mate.  Your sequence is correct up until move 6.

6. Rxg6 , and White has a passed pawn that cannot be prevented without heavy sacrifice of material.

I think after 6. Rxg6  black can play 6.. Qb2+  7. Kh2  Qxg6  8. Rh8+ Kg7 9. Rxa8 Qh5+ 10.Kg1 Qd1+ 11. Kh2 Qxb3  and white's rook cannot protect all the pawns. the black queen and king will eventually eat them up. it just seems too sloppy to play 6. Rxg6. and risk losing.. hmm... i guess it was just to play for a draw

or just play 8.. Qg8 and play with your rook against those pawns..

i've found the best way to test these things out is to just play out the position against a program like fritz and see how it handles the position
