    A5 saves the bishop and gaurentees that black atleast wins the exchange.

    it saves your bishop... otherwise it must be traded off for a pawn as blacck advances his pawn up once again.

    a5 by black prevents a5 by white, which would win the bishop after Ba7, Ra8.

    People say it saves the bishop, but it seems to me that the b-pawn takes black's a-pawn and then the bishop is still lost.
