1. g5+ wins more easily and is the better move, i think.

Nice puzzle!

sirfraijo, 1. g5+ doesn't work due to 1... Qxg5+ check, and after 2. Qxg5 Kxg5 white has nothing.

andreas-parry your question is good after Ne6 f takes e6 white can not mate but he can just play R takes f6 and when knight takes f6 g5 which leaves white four points up
