From a long game today, the result of which almost makes it seem like I know how to play the Modern...
The line that I posted in the puzzle is essentially the line, bigfish. 3. ... Qxe5 is not as strong as Qe4 if white just plays 4. Ra1.
I noticed the potential back-rank and tried to play bigfish's line - nice play!
What if white simply plays Ra1?
Do you mean in the original puzzle, Narz? If so, then the rook is lost to black's bishop on the other diagonal with an even worse position -- 1. ... Rd1; 2. Ra1 Bxa1; 3. f3 Bd4; etc.
Oh yeah, right, I had a feeling that was a really obvious answer to that question but it was late and I didn't see it (another psychological edge to having the finachettoed bishop I guess).
