    Hi friends,

    Last week, in a coffee shop, where my chess friends & I gather to play chess every week, one of them gave us this puzzle. we in a group of 4 tried so hard and after almost half an hour came up with the solution in cooperation. which made us cheer up Cool

    It's white to play, black's c pawn look unstoppable. and seems that white can only hope for a draw at best by taking the e pawn and regrouping his pieces to defend the king. can you find the solution:

    It may be because it's late, but I don't see why 2...Ka8 instead of 2...Kxa6    ?

    If 2...Kxa6 then 3.Nd5 winning the passed c-pawn.

    The solution only holds if Black plays 1...Kb7.  What if 1...Kc5

    After kxa6 white has Nd5 attacking the c pawn. after c7 white plays Nb4+ winning the pawn and the game.

    @KnightErrant: If 1...Kc5 then: 2.Nf5 c2 3.Nd4 c1=Q 4.Nb3+ & takes the queen. This is why Kb7 & Ka8 are the best for black Smile

    Amazing puzzle, thanks.  I too thought that the puzzle was faulty given that the black king could just go to c5 but that queen fork is pretty genius...  Great puzzle all around.
