Ok My coach mrwizard told me to do this forum about are chinese people smart. I'm chinese and I'm smart. But people in my group are chinese but dumb. Are chinese people really smart?
A heritage of communal dignity, honor, and excellence seems to manifest as expectations which may stifle expression. With that in mind, I'm not left with an impression of Chinese who are inclined to indulge in creative thinking, universally. A cultural emphasis upon such a well storied history and tradition doesn't bode well for individual distinction, let alone brilliance.
While a tradition of excellence may account for a higher quality and/or quantity of learned people, that same pressure infused heritage appears to neither predisposition nor direct the People toward "smarts". I ask you, do you feel as though your "smarts" extend beyond what you have been taught? Further, when you are presented with unique and new challenges, do you default toward inculcation or raw mental fitness?
My perception is that the Chinese utilize mental exercise in a repetitive manner, facilitating inculcation rather than raw versatility (which allows for what you may define as "smarts"). Smart individuals, to be stated as such, combine what is called "book smarts" acumen/inculcation and "street smarts" discernment. Otherwise, the person is either a product of their environment or an inculcated drone. The Chinese don't seem to have both, rather as a people "book smarts" seems to reign supreme. That's not authentic "smarts". It's just well rehearsed and forced by cultural pressure/pride.

I fail to see how spoken language(in this case, slang) accounts for one's intelligence. Of course, it could show, to some extent, a level of sophistication, but that really has nothing to do with how intelligent a person. Just to make this clear, I know many "smart" people who use words such as "pwn".
Thread starter, race has nothing to do with it. You'll find in all races that there are people who are brilliant, and those who struggle in certain tasks, but that doesn't nessecarily account for just one race. Out of all chinese people, I'm sure there are brilliant ones, and not-so-brilliant ones, but that goes the same for every other race, so you shouldn't place a label on a certain race as being "smart" or not.
