I was laying in bed tonight when I realized that I had been biting my nails for the past 10 mins. I didn't even notice it but when I did I was just like.. wow, this is a terrible habit. My fingers hurt alot from where I bite them.. it's just not good. But my question is, what are some of your bad habits? (non-chess related please) And also, if you have any suggestions on how to deal with my chronic nail-biting, please share. :-)

Haha, Many people have such habits but i never imagined that someone publishes it on a note, and in chess.com!!! haha, anyways

I have a problem but i'm doing really well in getting rid of it, which is:

I like to do my jobs and homeworks and whatever things perfectly, it's not the problem, but the problem is that I go back to check my work manytimes when it's not necessery and it's already perfect. Like doing one thing then thought i didn't do it, I go back and see that it's done, after a while I recheck again with some doubt and so on. scruples!!

the solution was to leave things as it is, and not to check it back. And feel okay with imperfect things, where the actual results usualy are perfect though!!

I poke my nose, and forget about all people around me, first i start doing it discretly, but then i lose it. So one day I find my self with a finger up my nose trying to reach the brain and 3 people in office staring at me. Thats when i stoped doing that forever.

I used to have a nail-biting habit when I was a kid. How did I managed to overcome it ? My auntie used to polished my nails, put a cream or lotion on it. They looked so delicate (just like a lady's nail) that later I just resist biting my nails. Simple. Try it, maybe this trick will help.

I used to wear glasses and when I did wear them, I would make a sniff-looking action to lift my glasses if they were falling. I still do it sometimes.

About your nail biting, you should associate it with doing something bad like, if you are stealing something, intentionally bite your nails. The next time you bite your nails, you will be reminded by your conscience about what you did.

I have the same type of problem, when i put the ringer to wake me up and then go to sleep, I sometimes have to go to check it again because theres a doubt in my mind i didint do it well. Also before going to bed, I test the ringer about 3-4 times taking me 1 minute instead of normal 10-15 seconds, and my cellphone ringer I dont even have to reput it for the day as its always on 7 days a week, only make sure cellphone is not shut off or on vibrate mode but I still have to take a look or two at its automatic alarm ringer before going to sleep. And if I dont check my cellphone ringer and other alarm clock a few times then I have to get out of bed after 30 minutes because i cant stop thinking about it! weird eh
