So do you guys lure fish or bait fish, or both?
fish
Whatever is biting.
I pretty much bait-fish. Worms, crickets, minnows, chicken livers, etc. Bass just don't taste nearly as good to me as most fish do.
In fresh water I use maggots, brandlin worms, luncheon meat. For sea well that's completely different I use Mackerel, squid, Rag worms, sand eels, razor shell bait. Grey Mullet are the best tasting I think.
Brandlin worms, are those Esenia fetida? Or what we call, "Red wigglers"?
Don't know. In England we know these particular worm as Brandlin worms.
Fish... I only use the bait fish to catch the fish. : )
ADK
That only works on sertun species of fish though, ADK.
I've started my own worm-bed so I won't have to buy any red wigglers. So far, so good...but I know how the summers here can be and I'm nervous for the worms come summertime.
I would normally use maggots. I used to have my own worm farm, it was like a compost bin. But it was thrown away.
I've never tried maggots, I'm ashamed to say. My worm-bed is the ice-containing part of a commercial ice-making bin. It's probably around 80-100 gallons. I'm not entirely sure, but I know it will hold a lot of worms! I've got several different species of worms in there, but mostly brandling worms. But I have two different types of brandling worm...one is Eisenia fetida ("red wigglers") and the other is Eisenia andrei ("red tigers"). I'm used to the tigers, but I always thought that they were "brandling" or "red wiggler" worms. So to get some true red-wigglers was a suprise.
Yeah, in my bin, I also had Lob worms which are pretty big.
