Any particular kind of game?  I need a little help narrowing it down for you.  MMO, FPS, RPG, etc.

Well, there are thousands of games on the PC.  If you like FPS (first person shooter) games then I'd recommend getting Day of Defeat because it's cheap and pretty easy to play.  The graphics and physics are decent too.  However, there is no single player mode, it's all online.

If you are into comics and you like MMORPG (massive multiplayer online roleplaying game) then you should look up City of Heroes or City of Villains.  It's pretty cheap, has a great charcter creator in it, and it's fairly modest in price and depth of gameplay.  If you are looking to spend hours and hours of time on an MMO then pick up World of Warcraft.

I've been playing a lot of Battlefield 2142 lately.  It's another FPS game.  Everything else I own is pretty dated (GTA: SA, Star Wars Battlefront II, CoD II, etc.)

I don't play that one online because I hate gamespy arcade.  I do however play DoD, CoD, and BF2142 online if you would like to hook up with one of those.  I usually go by Indemnity or Ind3mnity, no matter the game.

My favorite PC game is Rome: Total War (I play with some mods though). I know you may not like it, but you asked what my favorite game was :) Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic(KOTOR) is a cool Star Wars-based RPG, but it's a few years old. Still a great game.

Civ4 can be cool, but it seems the AI is always either too hard or too easy. Well, I should say, the AI itself isn't too 'hard' (it's not incredible at calculating what 'moves' would be best), it just gives itself such incredible bonuses it should really be considered cheating :) The Civ4 AI gets to start with multiple settlers instead of one in the hard modes, so thats like taking a computer chess engine, which has maybe an 1800 rating, and letting it start the game with three queens instead of one. (good analogy I think :)

Gamespy had problems very early on with eating up bandwidth and not telling you when it was connecting and exchanging information.  You also had to dL other software with it early on (the original google toolbar for example), again, without giving you a choice.  I'm sure that most of these things have been fixed because it got a very bad name for itself because of them, but, I don't care to mess with it still.

-edit-

CoD is Call of Duty (WWII FPS), DoD is Day of Defeat (another WWII FPS).  And City of Heroes is only online, no single player.

All I play now is counter-strike source. I play somewhat competitively, but try to stick to "pub'ing"  (playing on public servers). Don't tell erik though!

Haha. Yeah I used to be a CS freak way back in the day.. (2001-2003) I liked versions 1.1 and 1.3 the best. I mostly play strategy games now, though.

I play DoD:Source and CS:Source....fun games..

can't play seriously though...too intense..

now that i've gotten Chessmaster 10th edition, that's all I play

Random question on that...do the opponents eventually get good?  I'm playing people around ~1000 (what I thought my rating would be) and they all seem to blunder randomly.  Even the awful chess players at my school rarely blunder.

I played CS like a madman for a couple years and got burnt out.  I used to play in Cal-i with FNF but it just got to be too stressful (the game, not FNF, they are a great bunch of guys).  Too much sneaking around.  DoD is great because it has the same gameplay of CS but you get to respawn and the action isn't tall peaks with very wide valleys.

My all-time favorite PC games (both of which have sequels coming out soon) are:

Fallout 2

System Shock 2

If you can find copies of either of the above, I'd strongly recommend picking them up.  They're amazing games, even though the graphics are extremely dated now.

For more modern games, "S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl" is fantastic (make sure you patch it up first), and "Call of Cthulhu - Dark Corners of the Earth" is pretty freaky, and one of the best Lovecraft translations to video games yet.
