castling good or bad?

have u ever thought about the problems castling brings about i mean really

all ur doing is getting ur king stuck in a corner but there r some good things about it.

tell me wat u thinkis it good or bad or ist it both

Be sure not to miss this thread.

 

During the opening and middle game the king doesn't have anywhere to go, so I'd describe the king's position after castling as safe and out of the way rather than stuck. In the endgame, that's a different story.

Well said Loomis.  Agreed, it's always best to get the king to safety early on in the game.

As a relatively new player with only basic skills, I say castling is good.  It gets my king out of the way and helps centralize a rook.  It just helps me prepare for the battle.

 It all depends on the way the rest of the board looks, i have had games where i never did castle and was just fine and i have had games when i wished i never heard of castling. So you cant really say if it is good chess or not. You have to play the position that is in front of you.

Against better players, if you do not castle they will do everything possible to rip open the middle to open lines to your K in the center where his Q and rook will come to bear. Always castle, but do it on the proper side of the board.

I wouldn't go that far. If most of the pieces are traded off relatively early, it may make sense to skip castling altogether. But in general it's a good idea!
