Why do they dominate chess?  Kasparov, Bronstein, Steinitz, Botvinnik, Tal, and a whole bunch of other top chess players, not to mention Fisher, just plain dominated this game.  Any theories?

Historic stress on education as a form of wealth that can be taken into exile is my guess.
