Ni hao!

Wo ye xue zhong wen! Ke shi, wo shuo de bu hao ;)

I would like to recommend you the "Pimsleur" courses. There's no material better than that. You simply learn by listening. Also, www.ChinesePod.com is a great resource and comes at a resonable price.

REALLY FUN? I wish I saw it this way. I strugle with my french and find it frustrating. However, newly single I've a new motavation that is pushing me along rather fast (;

I admire all of you who find language so fun easy!

All the best in your pursuit verusamo!

I can be speechless in seven languages...I was onced very much in love with a young lady from Wentzhou, China and I started learning some Wentzhounese from her. Same word but intoned in three different ways meant three different things. Her mom didn't like the idea of a son-in-law who she couldn't easily communicate with, and so I failed the family test. Anyway, i didn't find the pronunciation too difficult but I can't say the same thing about intonation.

I haven't been on in quite a while because of college, but now I am back!

 I hate my Chinese class! Lol!

I thought I would like it, but I was horribly mistaken.

I am switching my foreign language class to German next semester.

I remembered Heinrich Schliemann to be a great polyglot but couldn't remember how many languages he spoke, in my search I came up on this :

http://www.worldsgreatestpolyglot.com/

Wish you were one of these, no? Me too... record is said to be 189 languages...!!!

Learning a language is never nice when you are just starting, once you start to pick it up a bit, understand how it works and are able to write and communicate a minimum, then the fun starts.

Malay is an easy to learn for us English speakers since many English words were Incorporated during colonial times, having said that i got bored of learning it after picking up the basics.  My knowledge of it slowly seeps away.

Good luck. I've been at it 6 years. Can never learn enough. With some friends wrote a program found at www.activechinese.com, and arranged direct lessons via Internet. Of course we hope to make something, but a labour like that is mainly for love...
