Amnesiac, obviously you were scarred  from an oppresive childhood in which you were always forced to color inside the lines. Those lines were your enemy, and now you're going insane.

Amnesiac, as many people have found making notes about your dreams during the night works well but that is not the issue - going back to a sleep/dream state is ...

developing the ability to assume a relaxed body/mind is not difficult in fact it can be done with stimulus/response training during the day by starting with a simple body mind exercise of clenching your fist, firmly not going to extremes, then very very slowly allowing your hand to open over about a minute - make a mental note about your experience, do this about three times a day, and then after about a week do the same thing with one of your feet, then a week later with another muscle group ... let your own body/mind be your best teacher   Cool

When it comes down to it, aren't all dreams about repression? I remember getting a book about them ages ago and whenever I had a dream about something I would look it up. Even when I dreamt of seemingly different things it would always say "you are bottling things up. Try to express yourself more. Seek medical assistance if it continues" But maybe thats just me. Do the meanings work in opposites? For example for ages all my dreams had fire and water in them. Someone told me fire means you are obsessed with sex. Does this mean if you always dream of sex you are a pyromaniac? lol.

Theres also the thing about external stimulus, eating cheese before sleep, banging your arm against the wall when you are asleep or whatever will affect your dreams. Also too much tv and stress I think. Last night I had a dream. It wasn't that crazy though (in the scheme of things) I was trying to find this women who was orange (clothes and everything) and was in a building with thousands of floors and cctv. I would scan the screens for orange and then go to that floor. She kept disappearing when I got near her though. I eventually saw her hide in a toilet on the 67th floor. I went to the floor but could'nt get into the toilets. I needed a King Key. I tried going though air ducts but just got lost. I was terrified the whole time. Anyway that was it. I really have issues to do with anxiety and depression and suicide and stuff so I shouldn't be that suprised by my dreams. I had a really good childhood though, so that should'nt be a reason for the lines dream. That was the scariest thing ever. Running and every line in the world coming apart to get me. I colapsed on the floor at the end screaming "THE LINES, THE LINES" like Frankenstein in the James Whale film. I really should see a doctor. :-)

Amnesiac- hmmm... there is a lot going on in your dreams and even in your waking life

there are as many ways of exploring and giving rational explanations for dreams as there are individuals on this planet - how ever there are enough similarities to give credence to "Jungian Archetypes", look them up - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archetype

one tried and true method of getting benefit from exploring our dreams is to keep two journals - one for your dreams and one for your rational waking life - at some time depending on your own nature and desire/s you will be able to recognise a co-relation between the two - use of coloured pencils, crayons, soft lead pencils can help with bringing life to your journals

equally important is to seek from your own good sense and judgement a determination to form future ideals that you can use for your journey in life and bring them into reality - as this happens it is likely that your dreams will be guided and formed from your desires rather than random emotions - you can be the leader and manager of great benefits for both yourself and those who are important in your life   Cool

I was partway up some mountains walking when I came upon some strange objects protruding out of the grass. I realized that they were the tops of houses and other things. All that was visible was the top third of houses and some strange twisted pieces of metal in spirally shapes. There was an old lady. I asked her what was going on and she said it was “the happy town”. I heard a humming noise and saw that beside the old lady was a power source of some sort. The women said it was hoped that the power would kill all of the snakes but that the power wasn’t high enough. I couldn’t see any snakes and the power seemed to be having no effect on the town itself.

I was then in a tunnel with a bike. On reaching the end of the tunnel there was a glass door in the ceiling. There was an alarm. I pushed the door open and was scared the alarm would go off but it didn’t. On getting out of the tunnel I found myself in a large building with lots of people. Someone asked me if I could take them back though the tunnel. I realized that I had lost my bike and must have left it in the tunnel so I agreed. On going back into the tunnel I found it very dark but I had some small balls of light. They were the size of tennis balls and I was chucking them around as if they were. I also turned on some light switches. I had travelled though the tunnel quickly before and now realized that that the walls were full of shelves of shoes. I was amazed by some tiny shoes and put some others in order. The tunnel was really busy now.

I was then outside next to a fence of some sort, a political event or some sort of newsworthy event was happening. My father was with me and there were thousands of people. I became aware of a reporter asking people lots of questions. It seemed that everyone was ill and she was asking people in what way, everyone was saying either that they were schizophrenic or that they were depressed. She asked my Dad and he said she could interview him whilst he walked back to the hotel. Shortly after they had left my Jack Russell dog appeared with a knife in her mouth. I pulled it out. It was a metallic and shaped like a biro pen with a bulbous end and sharp blade at the top. I went to the hotel to find out why my dog had come running out. On the way though the hotel I noticed that all the doors to people’s rooms were open and people were showering right next to the door. I reached my room which was ajar. I pushed it open and found my brother sprawled out on the sofa. My dog was next to him and then ran out of the room. I was aware that my father was in the shower. I became afraid and quickly went to exit the hotel. I was reaching the entrance when I heard my father behind me. On exiting I heard a crash and some strange laughing. I went back and peered through the doorway and saw that my father was wandering around part way up the stairs dazed and with his right eye shut. He had in his hand a painting which had the top of its frame broken off.

I was then outside by some benches and tables. I was telling a woman about a man who was being released from prison. There was an event in the past that the woman had been involved in, I told her this but she couldn’t remember what it was and I didn’t know either. He arrived in a car and when he got out I saw he was a giant. He kept offering me crisps. I declined.

Next I was at a lake, I think the giant had gone although it was very busy. On a table nearby were two identical newspapers which each had two Halloween masks on them. They appeared to be some sort of werewolf masks. The story was about a crime that two people, aged 13 and 22 or maybe 18 had committed. It was unclear what the crime was and also why they were giving away the masks. I became aware of a creature in the lake. I thought it was a dinosaur. I crept around with a gun, I shot it. It turned out to be a crocodile. A mayor had seen me and said he was informing the police. A policeman arrived and told the mayor that if he ever said anything then he wouldn’t be re-elected. I then went into a building and went to a high floor. I entered a room where people were discussing something. I took two magazines from a shelf and went back downstairs. On the way I became frightened and so put the magazines in a bookshelf. I exited the building and crossed the street to catch the bus. I realized I was on the wrong side and so crossed back over. I got on the bus. I woke up.

maniac2008 - if Freud was alive he would most probably find an emotional relationship between your dream and penis envy, don't blame me it was him that thought it up - is this relevant?  yes, I checked   Tongue out

and sometimes the contents of toilet bowls can in fact resemble snakes

the most important idea here is that the snakes were "trying 2 escape up the sides" if you had said "trying 2 escape up the side [singular snake]" then it could have been a single snake

but quite frankly the connection between cleaning teeth and snakes escapes me although may be he was using a particularly thin Cottonmouth instead of the more appropriate MouthFloss   Cool

Hi, Amnesiac. I strictly recommend you to read Freud, "the interpretations of dreams" would be a good start. You have very rich material in your soul, and obviously enough intellect and ability to make very good use of it. And don't give up keeping notes of your dreams, when you get into some depth in Freud, they will be very valuable.

you can find almost the entire book in books.google.com

I've always been abit aprehensive about Freud. Hasn't most of what he has written about been found to be wrong? At the very least he has given psychology a bad name. Everything being about symbolism, phallus's and repression being the main things. But anyway I will try it out. Although I kind of already know what most of my dreams are about anyway.

Since I have started writing by dreams down I have been remembering them in much more detail. I won't post anymore unless someone really wants me to as the last one I had would take up about 3 times more space than the other one I posted! It involved a little boy following me and poking me in the ear, a riot of people in angel masks and lots of other strange stuff. oh and I can also say that the last dream I posted was a real dream. Since I have been thinking more about dreams, I have been dreaming in much more detail, or at least remembering more.

Amnesiac -  I've always been a bit apprehensive about Freud. Hasn't most of what he has written about been found to be wrong?

Aramista - Carl Jung and  Sigmund Freud may be compared with the differences between Newtonian and Quantum Physics - both have a great deal to offer providing that their "body of knowledge" is applied with understanding and not as a "one size fits all" remedy

Amnesiac -   At the very least he has given psychology a bad name. Everything being about symbolism, phallus's and repression being the main things.

Aramista - Sigmund Freud did not give psychology a bad name the bad name was due to misappropriation of his "body of knowledge" both knowingly and unknowingly

But the fact that what Freud has said has been misappropriated means that he has given psychology a bad name. It doesn't matter whether it was intentional or that it is simply because his work has not been understood properly. If you ask the average layman what they think of Freud most would say that he was that guy who said everything was about phallus's and wanting to sleep with your mother and kill your father. It doesn't matter that this isn't what he said, but the fact that it is what the majority thinks means that it has given psychology a bad name.

Anyway, just going back to the snakes in maniac2008's dream. Although it's obvious what Freud would have thought...I would be more inclined to see the snakes in a more biblical sense. Throughout the ages snakes have symbolised treachery and troubles. The fact that they were in the toilet would mean you are flushing away any problems or troubles you have been having (or your brother). I think brushing teeth also has a similar meaning as long as the teeth were in good shape. Brushing away any problems. I would say it's quite a common dream, meaning just to say that everything is fine and any problems, whilst sometimes threatening to get on top of you, are safely in the toilet and are ready to be flushed away. But this is only my opinion from experience working out symbolism and allegory in films.
