Could someone please enlighten me regarding usage of Forum comment "Mark as read" which  has me puzzled (as often  I  am! ) .Thanks - Donald exqsme .

 It means that you're no longer interested in reading the new posts in a forum topic which you are tracking. It's a facility that lets you get up-to-date without reading a backlog. It's equivalent to throwing away all of the letters that have arrived while you were on holiday.
