As we see gas prices in America is shooting high....This may be a dumb statment or idea, but do yout think they have tried to find resources of gas in outer space, or tried to find elements that could be combined to make gas or oils? Just a thought let me know what ya think about the idea?     Undecided

From outer space would be prohibitively expensive - to say the least.  And in terms of combining earthly elements and the like, science's energies will be better spent in coming up with alternative power solutions like hydrogen cells.  Renewables will also become more and more important.

In terms of oil, reserves will last for the next 50 or so years (depending on which study you read) and then we will all be in trouble - oil is in everything (for instance, plastic)!

Fair enough - there are so many studies out there stating different timelines, but there is one thing that they all agree on; we will eventually run out of all fossil fuels.  This is simply due to their nature as 'fossil' fuels - they take millenia to produce naturally, and we are using them up at such a quick rate.  At some point in the future, the human race will be forced to come up with an alternative.

I do agree with that. Trying not to turn this into a political discussion at all. Laughing But just speaking about the American people. I do know of our government have itself a reserved amount of fuel, but i do not know how long it is suppose to last but i know we do have a side stash, which we have not yet used yet.

Going back to your original question, I think that hydrogen fuel cells will be the fuel source of choice for motor vehicles of the future.

We'll all die of disease, starvation, and general insanitarity from global warming before we run out of fossil fuels. The entire UK will most likely be flooded, as well as Japan. Central America will be history. Half of the land on Earth will be gone. People refuse to believe that the end is so near.

The US uses more than a fair share of oil and has to learn to use less. What did happen to the electric car ?

Yes oil is more prominate in Kuwait, but te whole energy windmills and stuff is cute and all, but there are really large areas in the States where enough windmills just want work, plus some of the terrain in our country doesnt provide the great openess for wind mills, also the area that do provide that type of energy we have windmill farms.....gas is 60cents, there but look at the type of hostile you guys are in half the time..not to sound negitive

You are referring to the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve.  While this federally controlled stock pile of mostly unrefined petroleum has been tapped occaisionally for public consumption, usually as a token gesture by an unpopular President during a period of price spikes at U.S gas stations, the reserve was never intended to replace, or even serve as a supplement, for the U.S. civilian supply.  It was intended, and is barely sufficient at that, as an emergency 90 day supply of fuel for the U.S. military and other "essential" government functions.  The entire SPR would comprise a drop in the bucket compared to the oil consumed by the the U.S. annually.  Also, much of the SPR is in unrefined form, which doesn't help if you have a shortage of refining capacity or some of it is knocked out by terrorism or other act of war.

Last time I checked... the sun is in outer space. Or we could use black holes to power wind turbines.
