I've seen golf mentioned and used in examples in alot of different threads. Is there alot of people here that's playing golf? I don't play golf but I know some people that play both chess and golf. Finally a question to you golf players, why do you think goplf and chess is popular ammong the same people (if it is)?

Golf and chess both have an elite and almost arrogant quality about them.

An interesting question I've spent some time thinking about even before your post.  One comparison could be that no matter how bad you are there is always someone you can beat and no matter how good you are you will be beaten. Another thought is that on any given golf shot it is possible to hit that one stroke to the perfect spot ( maybe even a hole in one ) as well as the very best of players. So too in chess there is every now and again that one brilliant move that makes you say to yourself, "yeah!".  That one swing or that one move keeps you coming back looking for  that satisfaction again and again. The biggest thing ,however, is probably that both are self tests of a skill and character that are never really mastered without devoting one's life to it...the never ending challenge!
