a couple of days ago on live chess someone was been very obnoxious, swearing and insulting people, but someone else responded with a great put down, he wrote; " I never argue with idiots they only drag you down to their level, then beat you with experiance!!"

i thought that was a wonderful response and very funny;does anyone know any other great put downs?

Ive seen a few of those aerguments too...and think everyone is equally to blame. This is supposed to be a friendly site where we 'band of brothers/sisters' can meet, play and discuss in peace. Those wanting to put anyone down are just looking for short cuts to inflame matters even more.

Its better to look at the cause for these arguments in the first place...and maybe learn from them so we can get on ?

This is one of those lessons of life - some people are the way they are, and that's it.Yell  Just let it roll off your back and move on (I have to follow this advice quite often myself, so I know it isn't easy...)

Hab SoSlI' Quch! "Your mother has a smooth forehead!" (Note: this is a powerful insult; don't say it to friends.) http://www.kli.org/tlh/phrases.html

"For him to tell you that you play chess like a world champion, then he tells you that he was thinking of the checkers champ Marion Tinsley."

some people can start a fight in an empty room its how they are, but its funny to read or listen to a good argument as it takes away the boredom of life Laughing

Just laugh at them and be like:

Evil Annoying Person: You are an idiot

Me!: Hahaha what an extensive vocabulary you have for a toddler :)

Evil Annoying Person: Shut up stupid

Me!: Aw bless is the baby having a bad day?

Basically winding them up and making yourself look invincible to all insults tires them out and leaves them off in a silent huff! Laughing

Lots of smileys thrown in works wonders too!

Hi Richie...I find that staying within the group I avoid all the idiots that are not serious about chess...thus I do not subject myself to their B.S. and insults.  It is unfortunate that there are some who just do not know how to be nice, This is why I do not play live chess.   As far as comebacks go...lol  I better not buddy.

I've got this in my profile - Chess is about Pitting Wits, not Whipping Tits!

How about 'Diplomacy is the art of letting other people have your way'.
