well you should look around for a club. I live in denton, and they have a chess club that meets at a library weekly. if you're in a VERY small town, maybe ask around, some people play but don't wear it on thier shirt sleeves. If all else fails, teach someone, or I suppose make sure your internet is reliable! best of luck.

Gabby-

This website will solve those problems-chess.com is a gold mine. I come from a small town as well, and wasn't able to play much, but chess.com solved that problem. You can play with great people right here, which most are even willing to carry on a conversation. Plus, sometime soon they are going to be releasing live chess, so you can play shorter games as apposed to email chess. All the best. I would be happy to play you if you wish!

I am in a small town as well, and chess.com has become my 2nd fav website (behind Wikipedia). I love competition here and it has helped revive my love for this game after almost 4 years without playing!

I understand for I also live in a small town(brownwood). Talk with friends and start a chess club. Talk with a school or  church about a club. Good luck

I grew up in a small rural Georgia town and there was noone to play chess with and this was before the internet. (60s) I tried starting a chess club in the school and only 3 people were interested and no teacher was willing to help with so little interest. I KNOW where you are coming from. I even took out small ads in the local newspaper trying to locate chess players. No luck. What did I do? I gave the game up basically until the Fischer/Spassky match of 1972. I then found a club about 45 miles away and started attending the weekly meetings. My hometown is still "dead" where chess is concerned. Thanks to the internet no other chess enthusiast need ever give the game up as I did simply because there is noone to play with.

thanx yall. actually i have tried teaching people and i tried to start a community club but no one was willing to join because people in my town don't really cares about chess and prefer to attend games. (i have to go to a game later but i'm not going Tongue out) then i tried to start a club in school with no better luck. But i love this website because 1. i can play the second most fun game ever (i love baseball first and foremost. sorry)2. i don't ever have to wait 8 years to be able to play again and 3. because i meet new people and learn new tactis to help sharpen my mind and gameWink
