Why is d4 a good opening move for white?.. What is so good about d4???

So just wanted to have opininons on it....

dude d4 is played by many world champions so i guess u wouldnt know that parth lol but its just good u have to study a lot of matches that people play with that, watch some of anand games n study but in order to play it right parth u have to play the main lines, u cant just start trading in the beginning of the game

d4 is good because there aren't as many defenses that can really be forced by black, namely the sicilian. The sicilian has had such good success for black that people often stray away from e4 due to that which leads to more d4 play. Plus d4 can force different types of game play upon the opponent better. Essentially d4 is an all around solid way to start and grandmasters really look for something that is solid.

However this does not mean that they have entirely moved away from e4 but it is rather a gradual shift and many people have noticed it due to the WC match having had so much d4 in it.
