given the number of multiple account abusers recently banned is it not time that chess.com instigated some sort of automatic ip address check.?
i know that ip addresses are usualy dynamic for each connection to the web but how many of these idiots are going to reboot their system to get a new ip adress when they switch ids?
so a simple check that a new login does not match a previous ip address should be fairly easy to automate.
I have now been the target of two such scams and i am getting rather tired of it. if it continues then i may have to consider leaving and joining another site.
My previous site had very few such problems because thay did have a tight ip address check programme.
the only accounts with the same ip address should be joint family members. which can be fairly easily confirmed.
Yes, I join you in this advocacy to weed-out this supposed to be wholesome site. There should be some kind of validation to minimize abuse. Registration and updating should disclose whether sharing computers with an existing member. Another chess site automatically shows who are sharing the same computer/IP address.
wow sad day for me in chessville if not only are there players taking far to many trips to restroom during tournament play.. now duplicate accounts.. Me , myself and I .. feel uncertain of those now representing as ??? possible friends and chess opponents after what My identity.. or what evil means are they a mind to ???
Automated ip address check sounds like the way forward alright.
I honestly have no clue what these people get out of this fraud, but they obviously have too much time on their hands.

What type of scams are you referring to?
i knew something was fishy with those 5 people....i knew it.
the scams i am referring to is this person playing under many ids. playing with each other and because one of them was using teh name and information of a long time friend i trusted them all and now i will get undeserved (and unwanted) rating points when their games with me time out.
More seriously the one known as alissa_sp is already back on site under a different id (i dont know which one). perhaps the same scam is already being set up again.
I appeal again to the staff here to seriously look at doing something about this problem (ip checking is the easiest) because at the moment i am suspicious of everyone on this site.
Don't mean to be insensitive. I may not be getting the whole pic. You've taken off your pic & profile information about yourself because some idiot(s) were using multiple user names & their games timed out on you?
There must be more to it. I ask because I do consider you a friend and wonder if I need to be taking precautions about something. Do I need to remove my pics & info? Is there something to worry about?
Hope to see your ugly mug & proud flag back soon! ;-)
your friend,
Dan (it's really me!)

and i suppose the fact that you joined just after the event is TOTALLY coincidental.
as i suggested the scam is being reinvented and yet still no interest from staff.
if you are tempted to ask why not use the abuse report - the forum is open to all and will act as a warning. abuse reports are private.
the abuse is one person in multiple accounts playing each other and manipulating ratings

then please do - in other words i am calling your bluff
I agree Rael and the only answer you get if you report them is - block their ids.
