Defending pinned pieces is as hard as maintaining the pin because both players will involve many of their pieces in doing so. In this 5 min game, I'm the one who's trying to maintain the pin while my opponent is desperately trying to defend their pieces. Note that keeping the pins alive is a good strategy, but sometimes other things, for example breaking the pins as a mean to reroute the attacking pieces, are necessary.
