Cigarette smokers around the world are now treated like second class citizens at best, and lepers at worse. No consideration is made for the extra taxes that we pay, the jobs we create, or our contribution to global warming. We now have to sit outside public houses in the cold with our smoking compadres to enjoy our overpriced nicotine fix, and in the workplace, we are made to feel guilty. Even ar home, I smoke in the garden to keep my smoke away from my baby son (this is a self imposed rule that I wouldn't have any other way).

I would like to start a debate on the stupidity and the virtues of this pleasurable, noble, age old habit. It is no more disgusting than watching a fat person scoffing down a chocolate bar. At least smoking looks cool and makes a contribution to society. Thank you in anticipation of your comments.

But a fat person scoffing down a chocolate bar does not endager the health of others.

I have a personal bias against smoking because my sister is asthmatic, and many times has had to go to the emergency room with a bad attack because of someone who thought the non-smoking sign was merely a suggestion.

So you acknowledge that passive smoking is harmful, since you avoid doing it in front of your baby son, but feel you have the right to smoke in enclosed spaces with other people, who presumably you don't care enough about to stop giving them cancer.  Nice.  I'm not interested in your proposed 'debate'.  At chess.com you simply enjoy upsetting people for the sake of it by being 'controversial'.  Get a life.

I lost both my parents to cancer and its a horrible way to die. As a result, I haven't engaged in a major pension scheme. On the other hand I am fitter than most people I know. I will probably die early as a result which means I will likely never smell slightly of urine. (And smoking does look cool. A woman smoking can look very sexy.)

Thank you for that. Also Sonofgun is an atheist, which is tantamount to being a devil worshipper, which means when his non smoking ass croaks, he will off to burn on the lake of fire. Ryan, you got a light?

Isn't it a bit early for you to start personal attacks on this thread?  I thought you were pretending to have a 'debate' first.  No, instead you go to my profile page to find something to attack me with.  Yawn...I won't be reading this thread again, so feel free to insult me as much as you like.  Insulting and upsetting people is all you seem to want to do, so knock yourself out.  I'm going to play some chess.

Thanks for your contribution to the thread SOP. I have insulted you not and I have not said I agree with passive smoking. If fact, your posts have been more scathing than mine. The difference is that I am not grizzling. Good luck in your chess games, but if I were you I would try not to get so emotional, it wont help your game or your blood pressure.

Being an atheist is equal to being a devil worshipper? I really hope that was a joke, otherwise it's one of the stupidest things I've ever read in these forums.

What about a self-righteous dim-witted bore filling a room with second hand smoke and third rate arguments?

I agree, girls who smoke are sexy.  When they peel back those smooth, soft lips and reveal that brown-gray, decaying smile?  The smell of tar and sulfur that seems to just drip out of every pore?  The way their breath smells like rotting tuna?  It's hard for me NOT to make a move. . .

Frankly, I find smoking to be a vile habit.  There is nothing noble in it.  If you feel compelled to smell like shit and blow it in other people's faces, then you deserve to sit outside like animals.

Personally, I'm a man who likes to take things to extremes.  If you want to smoke, which causes a number of adverse effects to those around you, then I should be able to break your childrens' legs.  Then I won't complain, because that way you feel the same way I do: angry and cheated.

P.S., I'd also have to poop on your kids to replicate the smell that smoking does.  I wouldn't want you to think that I got lazy in the process.

I think you should be able to smoke while your playing over the board chess, especially if it helps you to concentrate, otherwise you have a disadvantage.

When they banned it at our club about 10 years ago, i had to go outside the room. Now if i smoked say 5 fags in a 90 minute period at roughly 6 minutes per fag, thats 30 minutes thinking time that i've lost off my clock. Personally i thinkit's a conspiracy dreamt up by the non-smokers, because they're not as stong a player as the smokers.

By the way i packed in smoking 6 weeks ago, so i know what i'm talking about.

Discuss please?

You go, Jon!  Pack those fags!  I'd tell you to put that habit behind you, but I've vowed to never make anything over a triple entendre.
