I still am depressed.
Don't be, we have cookies here
I do have cranberry juice, and I usually mix my vodka, but someone left this bottle of Goose for me and I just can't bring myself to mixing anything with it
Did everything come out alright? I really hurt myself once drinking straight vodka. I was sick for two days. The heaves were horrible.
Have you ever tried Stolichnaya? If so is it any good? Like better than the "Goose"?
Oh, I was fine, thank you. I don't get sick from alcohol, not for quite some time. And yes, stoli is very good, but I prefer Grey Goose
Just watched Searching for Bobby Fisher. I hadn't seen that one before but now I wonder how I could have missed it. Great movie, beautiful story, wonderful acting, just loved it!
My Week with Marilyn (2011)
Most pop culture icons escape my understanding, and Marilyn Monroe is one of them. That said, this is a movie about movie stars and their melodramatic insecurities. Michelle Williams and Kenneth Branaugh were excellent. Beyond those performances, I can't say that I gave a damn about it
There are a couple ratios that pertain to physical attraction in humans that might help explain the attraction to Marilyn Monroe, an attraction I do not share.
One is a low hip to waist ratio. Scientists believe a low hip to waist ratio indicates health and fertility in a woman, and that this excites the reptilian male brain. With all the testosterone that's in there, it doesn't take much. Marilyn had a low hip to waist ratio, but I always found her a little chunky.
There are two ratios that apply to the female face that apply. Men find symmetry to be appealing in women's faces, while both sexes are attracted to a "triangular" configuration with more volume in the forehead area. This ratio is characteristic of infants, and it is thought to have evolved as a mechanism to protect children. This ratio, with it's oversized forehead, is consistent with the ratio of Marilyn's face. Yuck.
Finally, her childlike speech pattern reminds me of a mentally challenged adult. I've often wondered why men find this appealing. On some level, does the fact that she talks like a borderline retard make her seem more obtainable?
Pretty harsh words there, electricpawn, can't say I agree with it.
Public discourse, no need for agreement among all parties.
He can't deal with people making fun of Marilyn Monroe due to a recent family tragedy? Odd response.
With regard to "looks", I discovered( not the first person to, but I became aware of this at one point) what I believe to be a few other components that determine whether we are attracted to someone sexually or not.
I found a certain peculiarity, in my late teens. I discovered I could think a woman was attractive in terms of the way I perceived her to look, but yet I wasn't attracted to her. This made me question why.
I discovered that people are aware of what other people are like beyond their looks, from just looking at them. It is the same reason little kids hide behinds their mother's and say things like mommy, he is a bad man, or why a dog will pace, bark and growl at one person, but will readily approach another. We are able to sense things that tell us about our appeal to another and vice versa. Literally, everytime in my life if I felt I would be rejected, before I tried with a woman, I was when I finally did. It was like my intuition was sensing my appeal to her.
As I have gotten to know my self better, I can look at a woman and realize if it didn't matter, I wouldn't turn her down, but I still have a preference for what I feel most fulfulled with. It is good when someone can look at someone, that most find irresistible and know that they wouldn't go there because of knowing they won't waste their time on what doesn't ultimately fulfill them.
I think that could be categorized as positive assortive mating.
This is good advice for women you actually know, but we're talking about images on a screen portrayed by actors who are expert at disguising themselves and taking on the the personalities of others. Objectification of actresses is a time honored tradition among movie fans. As for the ratios, these primarily apply to initial impressions. There will, of course, be additional experience that forms a more complete impression.
EP, have you seen The Misfits?
Perhaps seeing Marilyn Monroe in a more substantial role would affect your opinion of her.
I think to a certain degree, she played substandard roles that she was pushed into.
... and that's what drove the public obcession with her, the sexuaL mystique.
That's just hilarious!
