Oh, yeah, Sir Duke is an incredible song.
Well, like I said we are all different. Creed's message is hopeful though sometimes maybe a little too melancholy. Do you have any suggestions Lisa?
Just vaguely familiar with them. My understanding is that they are a religious band (?), which passes the religious parent test.
The song that came to mind was One.
Just a thought......

2, 6, 7, 8 and 12 are my favorites but I don't know if she would like them seeing as how she is only 14.
hey, i heard brain inflammation and i automatically thought menengitis.
when i was 12, my 14 yr old, and only sister got menengitis. it was bacterial, so luckily it was caught in time and she recovered. she was in a coma for over 2 weeks. honestly, if this is the case with your cousin, the best course is to collect the most familiar music to her, her favorites, her parents favorites, her friends favorites. the best thing to do is stimulate the memories she may have lost because of the time spent comatose. try to give her back what she has the potential to lose forever. memory is fleeting and she's been through a lot. it's comforting to be surrounded by what is most recent to her before she underwent this ordeal. I'd talk to her friends and family, and let things take there natural course. i'm not sure something new may be the best idea.
oh yeah, i've met creed, i went to school in tallahassee. scott stapp is okay one on one, but otherwise he might be the most insecure posturing sycophant that i've ever met outside of politics. don't examine the content of the music, examine what your cousin needs most. this isn't billboard top 20 or top ten recovery songs of the new millenium, her rehabilitation is what's most important. what other people think will help is not nearly as important as what she thinks will help.
lol

By the way, if there are any Led zeppelin fans reading this thread, I just created a tournament dedicated to this great band. You can find it at the following link:

Well bro...i dont know if you will believe me or not, but miracles do happen in times we dont seem to see it. And as a singing brother...Try some of Don Moen..."Let Your Glory Fall" or try if you can if you can search for Gary Valenciano, he is our local singer who is currently suffering from Diabetes he sings both pop blended with christian songs in his albums like "Shout for joy",very very inspirational talent. Hope she reaches full recovery.
why not throw in some Don Moen music, as suggested by my fellow Filipino. Even Catholics like me love them and they're so uplifting that even American Idol used Shout to the Lord in American Idol Gives back...
Hey man, you can go to my myspace and choose any song you like and I email it to you. It would be my gift to her.. there are no words or singing, just instrumentals. But she may like them..
My initial suggestion would be to ask her what her favorite songs are and then try to choose the softer songs (rock songs usually would be a bit stressful, and this is especially bad when her brain is recovering - although a little bit wouldn't do any damage). Use her favorite softer songs.
Second, I'd suggest "We Are The Champions" by the always-popular band Queen. Very uplifting song - but there may be some parts that are a bit loud for her and we wouldn't want her brain to overwork due to louder sounds, so this song may be reserved for a bit later (when she's regained a bit of strength). One that always seems to put a smile on my face is the calming "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by Israel Kamakawiwo Ole. Another song that's good when your cousin is feeling stronger is "I Will Survive" - this seems perfect for her situation ;D - and we all know that song! After you get her in a good, strong mood, you could catalyze her recovery with funny songs (Eminem's rap song "Just Lose It" - although racy, it's still probably the funniest music video I've ever seen; be sure she knows who Michael Jackson is, though, because the video parodies him a lot!). Laughing always adds precious life to any given person - but make sure your cousin is strong enough to handle some good laughs. Remember that the best doctors will say that "laughter is the best medicine". Try all of these songs out for yourself, preferably in the order "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" --> "We Are The Champions" --> "I Will Survive" --> "Just Lose It" (We Are The Champions and I Will Survive could probably be interchanged in their order of play - that's up to you to determine).
I hope your cousin feels better and has some good laughs during recovery. =D
I want to thank everyone for their suggestions. I'm visiting her tomorrow night, actually, and have to finalize my playlist by tomorrow afternoon to burn it all in time.
I plan to post the finalized playlist - unfortunately my mother thinks that in this instance less is more, so she's leaning on me to make it thin, and this isn't the only place I've come to for opinions.
It does mean a lot to me that you all weighed in. I'll update you.
Dissonance
2: a mingling of discordant sounds ; especially : a clashing or unresolved musical interval or chord
Please be careful when you selct the music as music can be a tool of healing.
Rolef

Hi
I just talked to my wife as she is also recovering from a Traumatic Brain Injury. She said make sure it is predictable. She could not listen to any music for two years and is just relearning to sing. Before you jump into making 3 cds I would re think the whole project. You dont want to do damage and also keep in mind she might not be able to react to what is good for her and what is not. Dont rush it. Rolef If need be I can help.
Jack Johnson, James Taylor, Voxtrot, (certain) Ben Folds Five, Ben Harper, Electric Soft Parade, (certain) Lauryn Hill, The Duhks, The Format (definately), Guster, Modest Mouse ("Float On" would be a good song), Wilco
oh and PRIMUS
