The Reverend Horton Heat has the greatest live show ever.  Mates of State are a very close 2nd.  Besides that, some other great shows i've seen are:

The Decemberists

Andrew Bird

Jenny Lewis & The Watson Twins

Ralph Stanley

Death Cab For Cutie

Ben Gibbard & David Bazaan

They are all worth seeing...if you can

I saw Ani Difranco a few years ago at a festival. Other than that, I haven't seen a concert in years. These days, I spend the money that I used to spend on concerts on plays (any Avenue Q, Wicked or Drowsy Chaperone fans in here?). I never liked concert crowds, and I've found that with the theater crowd, I'm a lot less likely to have to witness spontaneous eruptions of violence and/or vomit.

The best concert I ever saw was the Rolling Stones in 1981 at the Pontiac Silverdome. I was very close to the stage (I could have spit in Ron Wood's eye) and since I'm so much taller than most people I had a perfectly unobstructed view of the stage.

FYI: (@ this Stones concert...)

Iggy Pop was booed off the stage (LOL, this is his hometown)

Santana was excellent

Mick Jagger kicked a little white (American) football right over my head.

My wife and I take our 16 year old daughter to a concert of her choosing every year; it's a family tradition.  My favorite concert was the first one because it was my daughter's first ever concert.  Ten years ago, fourth of July 1997, we took Emily to see the Spice Girls which was her favorite group at the time.  This is one of my favorite family events we have ever shared.  I remember all the details especially that there was no warmup act.  The SG did the entire show and believe me they did many many songs.  I asked Emily if she wants to see one of their reunion concerts but now she's into Daughtry.
