I'm interested in natural history, climate and climate change, cosmology, geology and science in general. Anyone else have similar interests?
Yes. Add to the list astrophysics and that would be me.
what is mmorpgs? and have you read anything interesting lately?
The nice thing about astrophysics is that really hard math is not necessary for understanding. Where the math comes in is if you want to make quantitative predictions from the theory and that is what computers are for.
That's right.Astrophysics is very intersting and without use of maths.I also like astronomy, cosmology, science generally and every documentary about nature
Would you include History Channel documentaries on cyptozoology?
Dark matter is physicists making it up as they go along. It is currently untestable so in reality bad science and also not the the simplest option so it fails Occam's Razor as well. Dark energy is pure fantasy. I'mm sticking with the minority who don't believe a word of it until some real eveidence turns up.
Hi Sharukin,
Bad science is a pretty harsh claim. Can you back it up with some specifics?
My understanding of the situation is that the mass of galaxies can be approximated and from this and using Newton's laws of gravitation you can calculate the orbital velolicity (which is also measurable). Since the calculated value and observed orbital velocity do not agree, there have been two hypothesis: either that there is a large amount of unseen matter in the galaxies, or that galaxies do not operate according to normal physics. I not a scientist, so I can neither prove not disprove this, but to me it has some logic to it.
